Peaceful luxury for your stay in Methven

Enjoy the comfort of a self-contained apartment, attached to our home and working studios. In 2011 we built a new home incorporating gallery space, working studios, and a fully self-contained two-bedroom apartment. The apartment is available for short term rentals. We look forward to meeting new people from around the world and making your stay in Methven as comfortable and relaxing as possible.

Cherie Irwin is an artist and author. She is in her studio writing or painting most days, and has previously worked with stained glass, sculpture and silver jewellery. Some of her current work will be hanging in the gallery. Her website cherylirwinarts.com has much of her work, past and present, on display.

Rooms and Rates

Quiet, private comfort

The apartment is attached to our house but is very secluded and quiet, as we built on a large semi rural section. It borders on farmland but is only a 5 minute walk to the centre of Methven.
It consists of a central living room, with a compact full kitchen. A sliding door opens out to a private east-facing deck that catches the early morning sun. A short hallway leads to a private outside entrance by the carpark, with a bedroom off each side.
One bedroom has a queen bed, the other two king singles. Beyond the kitchen around the corner are separate toilet and bathroom areas. The bathroom has a large tiled walk in shower and generous vanity with plenty of cupboard space and a large heated towel rail.
A compact laundry contains a washer and dryer.
The whole area has under floor heat which gives a beautiful, cosy ambiance in winter.

Rates

Minimum stay is two nights

Couple: Up to two adults, using one bedroom: $160
Plus one: above, plus extra person using second bedroom: $195
Full house: 4 people using both bedrooms: $225

For longer stays (over a week) or regular visits please ask for a quote.

After you have confirmed your booking with us we will email you an invoice, with deposit payable and balance owing when you arrive. If you need to cancel your booking, we will refund the deposit as long as you give us 10 days notice.

Methven

Methven, just over an hour south of Christchurch, is a quiet rural town – mostly.  It is the centre of a vibrant mix of farming activities (arable, sheep, dairy, small seeds) and has many related service industries.

But in the winter it transforms in to the nearest village to the Mt Hutt ski field, the mix of ski field staff and visiting skiers has encouraged the growth of businesses and activities beyond the norm for a small town.

Activities

In winter, everything revolves around the Mt Hutt ski field.  With plenty of clear, crisp days though there is no excuse not to enjoy some local walks or bike trails.  If the winter is cold enough, an outdoor ice skating rink at Staveley will open.

During summer many people come to Methven for the outdoor experiences; bush walks, fishing, jet boating, biking etc.  There is also a popular Summer School in early January.
